Technical Designer
Technical Design | Fabrication | Production
At Create&Fabricate, we are looking for a Technical Designer who can turn creative concepts into clear, accurate, and fabrication-ready drawings. This role works closely with our Project Managers, design team, production team, and fabricators to develop the technical documentation needed to bring each project to life. From experiential activations and custom builds to scenic elements and event installations, you will help bridge the gap between creative ideas and physical production. We are looking for someone who understands how things are built, pays close attention to detail, and can develop practical solutions while working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. What You’ll Do
● Develop detailed technical drawings for custom fabrication, event installations, scenic elements, and branded environments.
● Create drawings ranging from overall layouts and elevations to detailed fabrication and shop drawings.
● Translate creative concepts, renders, sketches, and client ideas into accurate, production-ready documentation.
● Work closely with Project Managers to understand project scope, dimensions, materials, fabrication methods, and installation requirements.
● Coordinate with our fabrication and production teams to ensure drawings are practical, accurate, and aligned with our shop capabilities.
● Prepare floor plans, elevations, sections, details, dimensions, and assembly information as needed.
● Review measurements and site conditions to ensure designs can be properly fabricated and installed.
● Help identify appropriate materials, construction methods, hardware, finishes, and production solutions.
● Revise technical drawings based on client feedback, production requirements, or changes in project scope.
● Support Project Managers with material quantities, production requirements, and information needed for project estimating.
● Maintain organized project files, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
● Coordinate technical information across design, production, fabrication, and installation teams.
● Help anticipate potential fabrication or installation challenges before projects reach production.
● Ensure drawings meet Create&Fabricate’s standards for accuracy, quality, functionality, and presentation.
What We’re Looking For
● 2+ years of experience in Technical Design, Drafting, or a related role, ideally within event fabrication, experiential marketing, scenic fabrication, architecture, exhibits, retail environments, or custom production.
● Strong proficiency in one or more design and CAD programs such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, Rhino, Vectorworks, or similar software.
● Ability to create and understand detailed technical and fabrication drawings.
● Strong understanding of dimensions, scale, construction methods, materials, and fabrication processes.
● General knowledge of carpentry, millwork, structures, hardware, printing, acrylic, metal, finishes, and other materials commonly used in custom fabrication.
● Ability to understand how a design will be fabricated, transported, assembled, installed, and eventually broken down.
● Familiarity with event production elements such as lighting, AV, rigging, staging, signage, and venue requirements is a plus.
● Strong computer skills and experience working with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office.
● Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and revisions simultaneously.
● Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
● Ability to communicate clearly with Project Managers, designers, fabricators, vendors, and production teams.
● Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt when project requirements change.
● Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team.
● Availability to visit job sites, venues, or installations when required.
