CNC Programmer / Operator

CNC Programming | Fabrication | Production

At Create&Fabricate, we are looking for an experienced CNC Programmer / Operator to join our fabrication and production team. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands both the technical and practical sides of CNC production. You will be responsible for preparing files, programming toolpaths, setting up and operating CNC machinery, and producing accurate components used across our custom fabrication, experiential, scenic, and event projects. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced fabrication environment where every project brings something different. What You’ll Do

● Set up and operate CNC machinery to perform cutting, routing, drilling, milling, and other fabrication operations.

● Prepare and program CNC files and toolpaths based on technical drawings, dimensions, and production requirements.

● Read and interpret shop drawings, technical drawings, sketches, and project specifications.

● Translate technical information into accurate machine instructions and production files.

● Load, position, and secure materials properly before machining.

● Select the appropriate tools, bits, speeds, feeds, and machine settings for different materials and applications.

● Run test cuts and verify machine setup before beginning full production.

● Monitor CNC operations and make adjustments as needed to maintain accuracy and production quality.

● Inspect and measure finished components to ensure they meet required dimensions and specifications.

● Work with materials commonly used in custom fabrication, including wood, MDF, plywood, plastics, acrylic, PVC, and other substrates.

● Collaborate with Project Managers, Technical Designers, carpenters, and production team members to determine the best way to manufacture components.

● Assist with the development of custom parts, templates, jigs, fixtures, and other production solutions.

● Maintain organized CNC files and create reusable cutting files whenever possible.

● Maintain and organize CNC bits, tooling, and related machine accessories.

● Perform routine machine inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance to keep equipment operating properly.

● Identify potential production issues before cutting materials and help develop efficient solutions.

● Follow all company and shop safety procedures while operating machinery.

● Help minimize material waste while maintaining quality and production efficiency.

What We’re Looking For

● 1–3+ years of experience operating and/or programming CNC machinery, ideally within woodworking, millwork, scenic fabrication, event fabrication, custom manufacturing, or a related environment.

● Experience setting up and operating CNC routers or similar equipment.

● Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC programming.

● Ability to read and understand technical drawings, shop drawings, measurements, and specifications.

● Basic knowledge of carpentry, woodworking, and fabrication methods.

● Strong understanding of cutting tools, router bits, machine settings, and material behavior.

● Experience working with sheet materials such as plywood, MDF, plastics, PVC, and acrylic is preferred.

● Strong mechanical aptitude and basic math and measurement skills.

● Ability to use measuring tools accurately.

● Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

● Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make adjustments when production challenges arise.

● Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the larger production team.

● Strong organization and time-management skills.

● Willingness to follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

● Ability to adapt to changing production priorities and deadlines.

● High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in CNC machining, manufacturing, engineering, woodworking, or a related field is a plus.

We’d Love to Meet You If…

You enjoy the combination of technology, precision, and hands-on fabrication.

You can look at a technical drawing and understand how to turn it into a real component, while also thinking about the most efficient way to machine it.

You care about accuracy, understand that small details matter, and take pride in seeing properly programmed files turn into perfectly cut pieces on the shop floor.

Most importantly, you are someone who takes ownership of your work, solves problems, and wants to continue developing your skills as our production capabilities grow.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on production role primarily based in our fabrication shop and warehouse.

Your work may include:

● Operating CNC machinery and production equipment.

● Loading and unloading sheet materials.

● Standing for extended periods during production.

● Moving and handling fabrication materials.

● Working around woodworking equipment, machinery, dust, and shop noise.

● Assisting other areas of fabrication and production when needed.

The position can be physically demanding and may require bending, lifting, carrying, and moving materials throughout the workday.

Candidates should be comfortable lifting up to approximately 50 lbs independently when required.

Schedule & Availability

This is a full-time position.

Because we work in the event and custom fabrication industry, production schedules may change depending on project deadlines. Occasional extended hours, evenings, or weekends may be required during high-production periods.

Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing project needs are important for this role.
